Before you begin reading, please take note that we are NOT moving away.
Now then… you should be able to focus and read the details…
A bit of history:
Three years ago this month (before Josiah’s diagnosis) our family was in Dallas, TX for a workshop learning more about Pioneer Bible Translators. After 1 ½ weeks in Dallas, we as a family were excited that God was calling us to partner with Pioneer Bible Translators as full time missionaries. Our plan was to have 100% support raised by the summer of 2013 and relocate to Dallas to begin working full time at their international headquarters.
Pioneer Bible Translators has a great need for individuals to work in the computer field. Nathan was planning to fill a position as a web developer on the Media, Arts, and Communication (MAC) team. While this is not a typical “missionary” role, it is a crucial role, supporting over 400 missionaries worldwide.
Our plans were soon changed drastically when we learned about Josiah’s tumor and our focus changed to surgery, hospitals and chemotherapy. We’re happy to say that it has been one year since Josiah’s last chemotherapy and he’s doing awesome!
More recent history:
Over the last three years, Nathan has continued working with Pioneer Bible Translators on a volunteer basis. God provided an opportunity for Nathan to build up a small web team, working with two other volunteers, meeting weekly in order to provide web support. The team worked with members of the MAC team in Dallas, and even though much progress has been made, it became evident that the need is far greater than what volunteer support can provide. As the need became more evident, Nathan and I began seeking God’s guidance; praying specifically about joining Pioneer Bible Translators full time.
A few months ago:
Our prayers were answered this spring. Nathan worked long hours, taking several vacation days from work and many late nighttime hours after the kids were in bed helping Pioneer Bible Translators launch a new website. While launching the new site is a huge milestone, it is just the tip of the iceberg of the updates, needs, and projects planned for the future.
We prayed over this decision; knowing that leaving Carfax meant leaving a good job, good pay, and good benefits. We prayed, also knowing that working for Pioneer Bible Translators meant we would be full time missionaries, needing to raise funds for Pioneer Bible Translators to be able to pay Nathan’s salary. While our decision was not an easy one, or one we took lightly, we feel confident God was calling us to take this next step in faith.
We are excited to announce that Nathan has already begun working with Pioneer Bible Translators as a Software Engineer! He will be working remotely, out of a home office. Through God’s divine provision, Nathan was able to leave Carfax on June 5th. He then spent the next two weeks in Dallas, and is now completing his first week at home!
There is much more to share. So much more. It is hard to share the passion, the mission and vision, the excitement, in just a blog post; it requires conversation. Especially when Nathan shares it so much better than I! He is beyond excited to be able to dedicate his talent, time, and passion to partner with Pioneer Bible Translators to transform lives through God’s word in every language!
So here we are – off on yet another adventure. And in case you missed it; we’re not moving away. 🙂
