First off – a road trip with two good friends is always an absolute blast!
Second – Ikea. Enough said.
Last, but certainly not least, the conference was more than I had imagined. Icing on the cake was having friends with me to discuss and process how God was speaking through the massive amount of information.
I wasn’t sure what to expect when I went to Declare. The theme, Wild Obedience, is what drew me to the idea of going when my friend suggested it to me. I felt I needed to attend, even though I was unsure about the direction of my writing/blogging. I hoped the conference would help me gain clarity.
A good starting point for me was to set a long term goal. Many of you may know, I am NOT a planner. I hate the quote “If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.” I think it’s flawed…BECAUSE…if you don’t have a plan – it can’t fail! (Which is always what seems to happen when I make a plan.)
As the weekend progressed, I noticed a theme interwoven in the keynotes and breakout sessions I attended.
I pondered, prayed, and poured over this seemingly simple, yet profound idea. If God can shout to us, I believe he did during the last keynote. This is what He said:
“Now listen, you who say, ‘Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.’ Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.” – James 4:13-14
In case I might have missed the shout, my husband used those EXACT verses in the sermon he preached on Sunday. It was then, on the 10 hour drive home, listening to the live stream, that my long term goal was to simply “Let God.” I am so excited to see where He takes me.
Maybe it will look like writing a book. Many, many, many years down the road. Maybe.
Maybe it will look like sharing our story through public speaking. Contact us if you are interested in Nathan or I (or both of us together) speaking at your event!
Maybe it will look like continuing to blog and sharing my thoughts to you wonderful people out there who read it. 🙂
When I arrived back home and began sharing with my husband, an underlying theme that persisted throughout the weekend grew into a passion I didn’t realize I had.
There are several bloggers who will do a 30-day series for their readers. I loved this idea, but wasn’t sure what I would post for 30 days! An idea had popped into my head, but I wasn’t sure how to implement it. And I wasn’t sure what to do with it. So I dismissed it.
As I talked with my husband, we decided this could be a year goal for me; one act of Wild Obedience. Where it will take me; I’m not sure. But, sometime within the next year, I’m hoping to have a 30-day series for you to read!
What does “Let God” look like today; one week after the Declare Conference?
Right now I am homeschooling my children. I have found a new area to serve within our church; which, after being unable to serve for almost two years due to Josiah’s needs, I am VERY excited about. And my 30 day blogging idea…it has turned into something bigger than I imagined; and I haven’t even started writing yet!
I look forward to seeing what God has in store as I sit back and “Let God” as I follow in Wild Obedience.
