MRI Day:
Today was Josiah’s MRI. The Children’s Cancer and Blood Disorder Unit has moved to the main hospital, creating a new experience for us today. The room made Josiah nervous at first, but he calmed down fairly quickly and soon was chatting it up with everyone. He let them put on numbing cream, and while they got his IV in, he showed Child Life how to use TNT in Minecraft to blow things up.
We then went upstairs to MRI, and it was quite the maze! He didn’t get the goggles to watch a movie, but did have music to listen to. Because he loves to sing and dance, we weren’t sure how it would go, but he did great. Nathan said he got a little fidgety towards the end and they only had to re-scan one small portion.
Good Results!
We got the call this afternoon that the MRI and all his labs look great! We’ll be back again next year.
Other Appointments:
Josiah has had a few appointments over the last few weeks. It’s been interesting with weather cancellations and rescheduling, but I think we’re all caught up now.
All is going well with growth. He grew over an inch in the last 6 weeks! He had a scanogram of his hips/legs/ankles to measure his leg length discrepancy. There’s about a cm difference between the two legs, which is a bit better than his last scan, so that was encouraging. Hurray for avoiding surgeries! He also doesn’t need a lift in his shoe anymore, which gives us a few more shoe options when that time comes around. Hurray again! He had casts made on Tuesday for his new braces, and will get those at the end of March.
All his doctors are impressed with how much he has grown and with how well he continues to do. He’s changed quite a bit from the 10 month old baby from what seems like forever ago. He’s now a 4’9” ten year old boy who wears a mens size 9 shoe!
What’s Next?
Josiah is looking forward to starting basketball on Saturday. A church nearby hosts a basketball clinic for 3-5th graders, and he has been waiting for this day for SO LONG. It’s been hard for him to watch his siblings from the sideline, but it’s finally his year and he is SUPER EXCITED!
